Spicy Candied Walnuts |
I have an abundance of walnuts off my tree at home so one of the many ways I try to use them up is to make candied walnuts. This recipe is a bit different from usual candied walnut recipe in that I add a little chilli powder to give each bite a bit of a spicy kick.
I also quite like that there is no oven involved in making these candied walnuts. Everything is heated and toasted in one pan on the stovetop and this recipe is dangerously quick and easy - I cannot have enough of these sweet morsels of deliciousness!
The recipe follows but if you would like to watch a 3-minute video instead just click below.
Ingredients:
20g butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup raw walnuts
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp chilli powder
Method:
Melt butter in a pan over med-high heat.
When about half the butter is melted, add the brown sugar to the pan.
Mix it a around a little before adding the walnuts.
Once all the butter is melted and the sugar dissolved add the spices.
Continue mixing until the walnuts are toasted and the spicy caramel mixture coats all the walnuts.
Line a flat baking tray with non-stick baking paper.
Pour hot walnuts onto tray and separate the walnuts from each other using a spoon or spatula.
Once cooled, they are ready to eat!
Store in an airtight container for up to a week - although I doubt they will last that long.
Tips:
If you are bit worried about burning the butter, sugar, walnuts (or all of the above) feel free to heat over a lower heat - it'll just take a bit longer.
Make sure you keep moving the mixture around to avoid burning the mixture and any subsequent feelings of disappointment due to having no delicious candied walnuts.
Make sure to separate the walnuts before the mixture cools otherwise you will get a big lump of candied walnuts all stuck together.
A silicon mat can be used in place of non-stick baking paper.
Enjoy!
